Makeup Hacks For Being Not-High Maintenance While Looking High Maintenance
Instagram and YouTube have ruined the life of women everywhere. We think we have to wear 50+ products and take over an hours to look polished. Guess what: you don’t! I’ve been asked a more than dozen times if I am a makeup artist, and while Sephora owns my soul, I spend no more than 10 minutes on my makeup and 100% of the time my products are in my car.
#1. Make Primer Your Bitch: Eyeshadow Primer and just Face Primer are both the best tools in my box. You need the smallest amount ever, so it’ll last for ages and for the foundation primer, I feel (this is not a medical statement at all) but it gives me a nice barrier between my expensive skincare regimen and whatever foundation I am wearing. I’m usually out of the house for 12 to 16 hours at a time, and I need to look fresh all the way ‘till the end.
#2. Tattooed Cosmetics: I wrote about that in detail here, but there are two things I have never been able to do in my life: apply false lashes and draw on my brows. I don’t know of the chola effect is what scares me away, but get it done -- $400 saves you 10 minutes a day… best decision I’ve ever made.
#3. Concealer: I know I may be the last person in the world to use concealer on the regular, but I hit 30 and I realized looking fresh is getting harder and harder. I have a nice concealer stick and I reapply about 8 hours into the day to pretend I’m awake and not surviving on 5 cups of coffee .
#4. Invest In Mascara: The world says eyebrows make or break your look, but I believe in good mascara and I’ve tried… hundreds. Maybe not that many, but at least 50. Hands down, based on compliments from strangers (how I gauge my favorite) is the Lancome Hypnose Drama. It doesn’t flake, it lengthens for real and builds! It’s made for multilayers so if you like natural, do one, if you like drag queen drama (i.e. me), do 3.
#5. Play Up Your Best Feature To Avoid Clown Face: #clownface should be a thing, is it? We all know those girls who rock it all but it can be intense -- my eyes are my favorite feature, but I also love my lips so my signature is a nice lip plumper. My go to is Too Faced Lip Injection (not the extreme, it kinda sucks), and I buy that shit in bulk.
That’s it, make an Instagram model blush, become a show stopper, or at least don’t look like a train wreck by the end of the day with my favorite makeup hacks. Love ya!
